SCROLL DOWN FOR AN IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT CHURCH CANCELLATIONS DUE TO CORONAVIRUS AND THE PLAN FOR REMOTE WORSHIP
We see our church not simply as a house of worship with walls, a roof and open doors. Rather, we believe that the church is actually all about people gathered and sent out to love and care for our nieghbors. Through Bible study, service, worship and missions, we grow closer to God and one another so that we can better share God's love with the world.
Everything we do at Cranberry is about fulfilling the vision we beleive God has for us:
All are welcome to join Cranberry UMC as we
Learn God's Word
Live God's Word
Love God's People
so that everyone will know Jesus!
IMPORTANT MESSAGE ABOUT
CORONAVIRUS AND CRANBERRY'S MINISTRY
Due to concerns about Covid-19 and to protect the health of our congregation and staff, Cranberry's building is closed through June 30th. The target re-opening date for our building will be July 1st, but we will continue to reassess the situation and update if the decision needs to change. Our worship service will continue to be online for May and June.
We look forward to worshipping with you online this Sunday! Thank you for your continued support for Cranberry's ministry.
1. WORSHIP - Join us each Sunday at 10 AM for worship in your home! We'll be worshipping via Zoom on Sundays at 10 AM. Zoom allows us to worship together via phone or online. There is even a Zoom app you can download to your smart phone, but it is not necessary in order for you to participate. When you connect to Zoom, there are options to join via video or just strictly through audio. We look forward to worshipping with you!
There are two ways you can join worship service via Zoom
Meeting ID: 979 974 757

2. PRAY AND REACH OUT - We are keeping people updated via facebook and email. Feel free to contact us with your prayer requests! Reach out to one another via phone, text, social media or email. Just because we aren’t able to be physically present with one another in our building does not mean that we must be isolated from one another. Pray for those who are sick, for a vaccine to be developed quickly, for those most vulnerable to this virus, for hospitals and medical professionals, for our government leaders, for our economy, and for those who are stressed and anxious. Indeed, there is so much to pray for! We as a church family can live God's Word and love God's people by supporting, encouraging and praying for one another and our community. Our building may be closed, but our ministry continues in powerful ways!
3. GIVE GENEROUSLY -
We also encourage you to remember to continue your generous financial gift to Cranberry UMC. In this period you can,
1) Mail a check to the Post Office Box. Faithful servants are checking the mail to keep us on top of our bills.
PO BOX 78

2) Use the Online Gifts option from the cranberryumc.org website, click on "Online Gifts" to use use Tithe.ly to make a secure contribution. You will need to setup an account for your first use.
We lift up this scripture and prayer in the midst of this uncertain time:
“Don’t be anxious about anything; rather, bring up all of your requests to God in your prayers and petitions, along with giving thanks. Then the peace of God that exceeds all understanding will keep your hearts and minds safe in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)
In this time of unknown and anxiety,
we bring to you all of our burdens and worries,
all of our fear and frustration.
We pray now for healing for those who are sick,
protection for those who are vulnerable to this virus,
comfort for those who mourn,
medical professionals and government leaders,
those who are stressed and anxious,
and for wisdom
for ourselves and neighbors
as we are reminded
of how powerfully we are all interconnected,
that even something as simple
as washing our hands often
and staying at home
can be life-giving,
for so many during this time.
We place our trust in you now and breathe in your peace, calm, and care.
In Christ's name we pray - AMEN
Peace and blessings,
ABOUT OUR CHURCH
Learn God's Word. Live God's Word. Love God's People.
So that everyone will know Jesus!
Cranberry United Methodist Church is a loving and welcoming community of faith with a rich and rooted history of serving its neighbors in love. Located in Aberdeen, Maryland, Cranberry is a part of the Baltimore-Washington Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church in the Baltimore-Suburban District. It is a part of the Cranberry-Presbury Cooperative Parish, in which we share a pastor with Presbury UMC and work together in ministry in a number of ways throughout the year.
Our church was founded in 1862 by a small group of believers from the Perryman area. They met in a one-room schoolhouse, 30 x 24 feet, hauled by 10 yokes of oxen from Sod Run (about two miles below town) to a site just south of the present location.
In 1865, The Methodist Church divided into two groups, Methodist Episcopal Church South and Methodist Episcopal Church North, due to the feelings over slavery. Cranberry Methodist Episcopal Church South was organized on June 13, 1866, with five Trustees John M. Taylor, Daniel Martin, James Numbers, Joseph Everist Taylor and Joseph Wells.
A tract called "James Park", originally "Cranberry Plantation", was deeded from Edward Griffith for $1.00 as a gift to the above Trustees. The deed read, "81 perches of land, more or less, measured by a stone in the middle of the road leading from Spesutia Church to Bush River Neck."
In 1866, the cornerstone was laid for a two-story wooden structure on the site of the present church. The first floor was used as a school and church services were held on the second floor. The two-story building existed until 1888 when a bazaar was held by members for the purpose of raising funds to tear down the old church and erect what is the present building. The present church had a belfry that was removed during a renovation in 1922-1926. In 1932, a stone wall and improved parking space were added.
The Methodist Episcopal Church North and South reunited in 1939, and in 1968 a new denomination - The United Methodist Church - was formed with the Evangelical United Brethren, which gave us our current name - Cranberry United Methodist. In 1964, an Army surplus building was purchased from Aberdeen Proving Ground and is now the Church School building.
Today Cranberry United Methodist Church is an active and vibrant worshipping community with thriving Sunday School and Music ministries, and heart for serving others. We are blessed to have a caring congregation that truly welcomes people with open hearts, minds, and doors.
